Generation Rent boss chairing key Labour Conference event

The chief executive of Generation Rent is chairing a key housing event at next week’s Labour Party conference.

Ben Twomey – who has been a Labour candidate at past elections – is addressing a Labour Housing Group meeting on the Tuesday afternoon of next week, shortly after the keynote speech given to the full conference by Prime Minister Sir Kier Starmer.

Twomey, in his capacity as Generation Rent chief executive, will be at the event titled What Next For Renters’ Rights?

Publicity for the meeting suggests it will address the following questions:

  • How can Labour implement the Renters’ Rights Bill to ensure its maximum impact on living standards?;
  • What new rights need legislating in primary legislation, and what was missing from the Renters’ Rights Bill?;
  • What support do local authorities need to enforce the new obligations on landlords?; and
  • What support do private renters need to exercise their new rights?

Other speakers include Naushabah Khan MP and Joe Powell MP, two Labour members of the all-party Housing, Communities and Local Government Select Committee; and Dame Clare Moriarty, chief executive of Citizens Advice.
