Government set to respond to Section 21 petition

Government set to respond to Section 21 petition

The petition calling for a U-turn on the abolition of Section 21 is set to pass a major milestone today.

Launched in late January by landlord Craig Littlejohn, the petition on the official Parliament website demands the creation of a rogue tenants database, a six-week expedited court process for mandatory Section 8 and 7A evictions covering rent arrears and anti-social behaviour, and a U-turn on the abolition of Section 21 possession powers.

The petition now has some 10,000 signatures, meaning the the government is obliged to respond.

This is likely to take the form of a written statement which will be published on the petition site.

At 100,000 signatures, this petition will be considered for debate in Parliament.

You can view the petition here.
