The National Residential Landlords Association is urging members to write to their local political leaders to explain the potential damage of the UK government’s energy efficiency proposals on their businesses.
The government wants new tenancies in England and Wales to have an EPC rating of C by 2028 with existing tenancies following suit by 2030.
The NRLA says the government currently plans to introduce the regulations in late 2026, leaving landlords with less than 18 months to assess, secure funding, complete upgrades and obtain a new EPC.
A statement from the association says: “We believe this timeframe is far too tight, with 2.5m rental properties across the country currently falling below a C.
There are also major cost implications, with landlords expected to pay up to £15,000 per property to bring them up to standard.”
